Being at war with your body is exhausting - You can feel more free in your body!

1:1 Services: Welcome

Why is it so hard to love my body and myself?

It’s overwhelming to constantly be thinking about your body. It takes up so much time and space in your life. Time that you could be using for other things that are truly important to you. You may feel exhausted from continually berating yourself, criticizing your body for being too big or unattractive, and knowing that that line of thinking is a product of diet culture- but feeling like you’re not able to change it.

Even though you may know weight isn’t necessarily an indication of health, you worry that you’re not doing enough for your health. Maybe you want to figure out what “health” means for you. You know you want to feel more satisfied and satiated when you’re moving or eating. It can be hard to be vulnerable physically and emotionally with partners or dating, for fear of judgement about your body.

Body Liberation Counselling may be a good fit for you if:

- You’re feeling exhausted and frustrated about your body image

- Your self-esteem has taken too many hits and you can’t remember what it’s like to trust yourself

- Beliefs about bodies, food, and movement are negatively impacting how you engage with the world

- You're ready to give up the diet cycle

- You feel like you’re missing out on the things you really want because of how you feel about your body

Feel more at peace with your body

My goal is to support my clients through their personal self acceptance journey of body and mind. Feeling liberated in your body often comes with looking at your automatic thoughts. These ideas frequently arise from the culture we live in or were raised in. For many of you, that means the Western world which is steeped in diet culture (or the false belief that thin is healthier, more attractive and/or worthy, and more deserving of rights and care). We can explore how diet culture and anti-fat bias shows up in your life; preventing you from living the life you want. Together, we can problem-solve how to deal with these situations as they arise.

I’m excited to support women and non-binary folx who are ready to explore their body struggles. Our pace, what you disclose, and how we approach solutions and coping is up to you. Often, I will introduce concepts such as self-compassion, mindful noticing, or simply sitting with what feelings and sensations are arising in the moment. As consent and choice are important to me and in the therapy room, I listen to you, and I encourage you to provide feedback about what is helpful or not helpful.

You may feel hesitant or unsure about seeking out support. This is a common concern as counselling is often vulnerable and difficult work. It can be hard to reach out, and it can be even harder to do this kind of work alone. I strive to be an empathetic and informed counsellor, and I am also someone who has been there and gets what it’s like to be where you’re at with body image and self-esteem issues.

A better relationship with your body and yourself

Counselling is a place to explore your struggles, but it can also be a place to celebrate your wins. Often, clients come out of our sessions feeling more at ease, with a variety of useful coping skills, and more hopeful about their relationship with their bodies. You may have less intrusive thoughts about your body and food, more time to focus on the things that really matter to you, and a better understanding of your inherent worthiness. Your struggle with anxiety and depression may make more sense to you and you may have more capacity to cope with difficult emotions and situations.

We’ll meet for your Discovery Call to get a sense of what your needs are and where I can help. Prior to our first session, I’ll ask you to sign an Information and Consent form which outlines our agreement to work together, the limits of confidentiality, and information like fees and cancellation policy. It also asks some identifying information such as your pronouns, address, and emergency contact, and questions about you. Payment is collected at the end of your session by e-transfer (please advise if another payment method is required).

My counselling services are currently open to Ontario residents who are 18+ only.

Current Rates:

- $165/session

- Sessions are one full hour in length

If cost is a barrier, limited sliding scale spots are available. Please email me to discuss. Payment via e-transfer is preferred.

Please note I am a Registered Social Worker and as some insurance plans cover social work, I will provide a receipt of payment with my registration number for you to get reimbursement from your insurance provider. Please check with your provider to see if social work services are covered.
